IIT Delhi develops Hindi version of music therapy to support speech recovery after stroke

Researchers from IIT Delhi, AIIMS New Delhi and IHBAS have developed the first Hindi version of Melodic Intonation Therapy for stroke survivors with aphasia. The music-based treatment uses melody and rhythm to support speech recovery. A pilot study involving six Hindi-speaking stroke survivors found clinically meaningful improvements after 40 therapy sessions. Published in Aphasiology, the study highlights the development of a language-specific rehabilitation approach while noting the need for larger studies.
